As the number of COVID-19 cases are declining in the United States, the CDC last week has said that 99.5% of the U.S. population is in a location where COVID levels are low enough that people do not need to wear masks. Even during the high time of the pandemic the mask requirements have resulted in significant friction on U.S. airplanes.
In light of these announcements, various American travel agencies, like U.S. Travel Association are asking White House to lift COVID-19 travel restrictions and repeal a mandate requiring masks on airplanes and in other transit modes by April 18.
The organization letter to Dr. Ashish Jha, the incoming White House COVID response coordinator. In the letter, called for an immediate end to the pre-departure testing requirement for all fully vaccinated inbound international persons and ending the mask mandate or announcing an end to it within the subsequent 90 days.
The travel industry also wants the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to end the avoid travel advisories for all vaccinated individuals. They also urged the Biden administration to avoid the travel bans to other countries.
Roger Dow, U.S. Travel Chief Executive has pointed out that it made little sense to carry on the pre-departure testing requirement and require negative tests at U.S-Canada and U.S.-Mexico land border points of entry. The removal of these restrictions will help in the revival of the American travel industry.
