ITE

Launched on June 5 evening on Facebook, ITE latest survey received until 9 am Monday on June 8 an overwhelming 1506 replies!  The survey, which will finish on June 11, ask where respondents be interested to visit after travel restriction lifted, and the first 300 respondents win two complimentary ITE public tickets!

The overwhelming responses reflect high interest to travel post-outbreak among citizens! That they came quickly mean strong support to ITE, which a big encouragement and our appreciation!

The findings based on these 1506 replies are compared, whenever appropriate, to a similar survey held in June 2019, and both in fact have similar respondent profiles which in short mature and educated!

This year, the three largest age groups are respectively those between 40 and 60 at 44.6%; between 25 and 39 at 40.8%, and those over 60 at 9.5%. By education, 41.9% university while another 21.5% post-secondary! Also, female outnumber male by around two to one!

The survey found Covid-19 does change destination preference but not big enough to affect relative ranking! Gains are mainly happened to Asian destinations and significantly interest on long haul travel pretty good!

Chosen by some 70% respondents and most popular is northeast Asia which include Japan and South Korea! Next at some 40% are the neighboring areas, where likely be the earliest to have border control relaxed. In particular, Taiwan gain some 6 percent to around 43% this year.

The two rather popular regions of Europe and Southeast Asia both lose a few points to around 26%! Little change are Oceania and Pacific islands which this year chosen by 22%; the Americas at 11%; and Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa each at around 6%. Apparently, long haul destinations remain attractive to Hong Kong.

In fact, thousands of Hong Kong residents in February and March this year visited destinations not only in Asia but also in Europe, Africa and South America. Currently some travel agent in the city promoting tours to Europe and the Middle East departing from September to early next year.

The annual ITE Hong Kong, the city’s only travel fair, will this year postpone to August 7 to 9 and be held in Halls 3B to 3D in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Also, it is the first travel fair held after outbreak in the Greater Bay Area and perhaps in Asia and beyond!
