Travel and Tourism fair Kolkata has staged a huge fair in ‘Milan Mela prangon’ from 1st July to 3rd July. The event happens two years after the pandemic has badly hit the international trade market. The Travel and Tour Fair in Kolkata is the oldest travel show in India (began in 1989).
The Maldives has participated as the first-time partner country with several tour operators, hoteliers and travel management companies. Thailand is the featured country this time. There was also Nepal as a foreign country.
Uttarakhand, Panjab, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Karnatak and Gujrat has participated with their Hotels and travel agencies. TTF was inaugurated with the presence of dignitaries from national and international regions. TTF has travel associates like ETAA, TAAI, ADTOI, IATO, SKAL IATTE, ATSPB, EHTTOA, ABTO, NIMA and HHTDN.
TTF is the oldest among the other 9 cities. It is still the largest among the rest of the travel shows in India. This event is regarded to be very important as it bridges the national and international travel industries together.
The fair had over 200 participants from 3 different foreign countries. The event also hosted 20 Indian States and UTIs. The entire event has attracted thousands of travel enthusiasts, travel businessmen media persons in the city. The pandemic has disrupted the travel industry hugely. With bookings going down by 50% the entire travel industry faced the one of the deadliest consequences possible.
The post-pandemic era 2022 is showing signs of recovery with bookings surging to 67%. The managers are hopeful that with domestic travel growing at a steady rate the travel industry is going to be in good shape. Nearly 1.14 crore air travellers arrived in May 2022. The pandemic has caused the Hotel occupancies to drop by 50% due to the hit from the omicron in January 2022. During June occupancy reached 67%.
