To Turkey, Rida Azeem knew that her trip for dental had gone erroneous the minute she took her mask off.
Azeem, an engineer from Manchester in the UK, said that she had visible gaps below her gums, and one could see all the metal bits. The thing was done incorrectly. At first, they were going to do five implants, she remembers. However when the treatment was about to start, the dentists informed her that they would have to remove all her teeth.
They appeared to her as professional, says the 42-year-old, who at present has to wear veneers.
Lured by the assurance of getting that perfect smile at a much less price, around 150,000 to 250,000 patients from abroad are flocking to Turkey each year, as per the data of the Turkish Dental Association (TDB), making the country as world’s one of the most popular destinations for dental tourism alongside Hungary, Dubai and Thailand.
Tarik Ismen from the TDB claims that the dentists of Turkey are only handling the demand.
He said that many people coming to the country wants to look like Hollywood stars and have a bright, fluorescent smile.
He explained that botched surgery rates of 3-5% is acceptable… and could take place anywhere, mentioning that not one of his association’s 40,000 dentists had been removed.
Turkish dentists are the best at the same world’s cheapest, declares Türker Sandallı, who 20 years back initiated dental tourism in Turkey.
