Türkiye’s tourism industry has shown signs of recovery with a 21.35 percent increase in tourist arrivals in February 2023 compared to the same period last year, according to official data released by the Culture and Tourism Ministry.

The figures show that 1.87 million tourists visited Türkiye in February 2023, up from 1.54 million in 2022 and nearly 538,000 in 2021.

Istanbul, the largest city in Türkiye by population, was the most popular destination for foreign visitors, attracting 1.08 million tourists. Edirne, a city in Türkiye’s northwest bordering Bulgaria and Greece, came in second with 222,554 visitors, followed by the resort town of Antalya with 196,492 tourists.

Russian tourists made up the largest group of visitors, accounting for 12.17 percent of all visitors with a total of 227,169 arrivals in February 2023.

Bulgarians were the second largest group with nearly 151,000 arrivals, followed by Germans with nearly 149,000 arrivals, Iranians with 113,000 arrivals, and Georgians with 104,000 arrivals.

The increase in tourist arrivals is a positive sign for Türkiye’s tourism industry, which has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and related travel restrictions.

The government has been working to revive the industry, which is a key source of revenue for the country.

The recent increase in tourist arrivals in February 2023 is a result of the government’s efforts to promote Türkiye as a safe and attractive destination for international visitors.

In the first two months of 2023, Türkiye attracted a total of 3.88 million foreign visitors, which is a 37.3 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

This is a promising sign for the country’s tourism industry, which has been struggling to recover from the pandemic.

The government’s efforts to promote Türkiye as a safe and attractive destination, as well as the country’s natural and cultural attractions, are expected to continue to drive growth in the tourism sector.
