The ministers in the United Kingdom will discuss the possibility of hotel quarantines for incoming passengers. The British government has been gradually introducing tighter travel and movement rules for the country since winter last year. Currently, almost all people arriving in the country must present a negative COVID-19 test result before arrival.

All passengers are also required to self-isolate for up to 10 days, filling out a passenger locator form detailing where they are staying. While passengers are currently allowed to isolate in their homes, this could soon change to mandate isolation in hotels only.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson responded to questions about stricter rules, saying that he is really don’t rule it out, we may need to take further measures still. They don’t want to put that [efforts to control COVID] at risk by having a new variant come back in.

London mayor Sadiq Khan is among those who have called for the United Kingdom to adopt the use of enforced quarantine in hotel rooms. London is a top destination for GCC travellers, with high-income locals flocking to the capital’s most famous and glamorous hotels.

The United Kingdom closed all of its travel corridors last week (Monday, January 18) in hopes to protect its citizens from new strains of COVID-19. It now means anyone flying to the island nation no longer has the luxury of entering without needing to isolate.

The UAE was taken off the travel corridor list in early January to the dismay of aviation and hospitality professionals. British travellers continuously rank as a top source market outside of the GCC for Gulf countries thanks to ITS warmer climate and strong air network. The blanket ban sees the likes of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia taken off the travel corridor list.
