As per STR’s hotel construction pipeline data for the U.S., 1,575 hotel projects accounting for 203,890 rooms are in construction as of April 2019. U.S. hotel construction pipeline data represents seven consecutive months of growth beginning with October 2018. The 9.9 per cent rise in April was the highest for any month since August 2017.

A majority of the country’s construction activity continues to be focused in the upper midscale and upscale segments. The upper upscale projects represented the largest percentage increase in activity year over year.

    2. Upscale: 61,347 rooms (+4.9%)
    3. Upper Upscale: 24,543 rooms (+12.2%)
