U.S. TravelU.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow issued the following statement congratulating Gen. John Kelly on his confirmation as Homeland Security Secretary by the U.S. Senate:

“The U.S. travel community applauds the Senate’s confirmation of General John Kelly as the next secretary of Homeland Security. We look forward to collaborating with Gen. Kelly and his agency on smart, effective measures to protect our country’s citizens and travelers.

“The U.S. Travel Association is eager to work with Gen. Kelly and his team on matters including improving and streamlining the Transportation Security Administration, and making smart improvements to the customs and entry process for all legitimate international travelers. He will oversee important programs such as the Visa Waiver Program, TSA PreCheck and Customs Preclearance, travel programs which are vital to U.S. national security, and we stand ready to advise the new DHS leadership on these matters.

“Despite a constantly changing global landscape, secure travel and efficient travel are not mutually exclusive goals—we look forward to continuing our long track record of working with DHS leaders to identify policies that accomplish both, and we are ready to get to work.

“As I often say, without security, there can be no travel. We are grateful for the strong relationships our community has fostered at DHS, and we anticipate a continuation of this collaborative spirit with the agency under Gen. Kelly’s leadership.”
