Udaipur, known as ‘the city of lakes’, witnessed the highest number of tourists in the month of February. The influx of domestic and foreign travelers in Udaipur has even surpassed the record of the last 14 years. A total number of 1 lakh 40,400 tourists entered the city during that month.

Majority of the tourists in Udaipur arrive from Gujarat for the period of the Phagutsav in the temples of Shrinathji, Dwarkadhish and Vitthalnathji. Throughout this 40-day fiesta, a huge number of Vaishnavs and disciples come from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh including Gujarat.

The Ahmedabad-Udaipur train, which was launched around four-and-a-half-months before, has also made travel relaxed for people and has become a rescue for the tourism sector. As per Shikha Saxena, the Deputy Director of the tourism department, the influx of tourists will increase more in the wake of the development of air and rail infrastructure in Udaipur.

Other events in the pipeline are the G-20 Sustainable Financial Group conference to be held from March 21 to 23, in which over 150 invitees from 20 countries will visit. The Gangaur Puja and Mewar Festival will also be held by the tourism section on March 24, 25 and 26, in which travelers from all across India and the world will take part.

On the whole, the failure experienced by the Udaipur tourism sector because of Covid is now paying off.
