UK Gas Leak: Hundred evacuated from major tourist destination Leicester Square

More than hundreds of people including tourists have been evacuated from UK’s major tourist destination Leicester Square because of a suspected gas leak.

The cops have asked staff in tens of offices and shops to vacate after the busy area in central London was cordoned off.  The emergency services are now at the scene and people are being asked to avoid the area.

It is according to spokesperson for Met police, the cordons are in place at Leicester Square due to a suspected gas leak.  Emergency services are in attendance and managing the incident. A number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution, and the square is currently closed to pedestrians. Please avoid the area.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said that Police were called at 07:27hrs on Tuesday, 14 December following reports of a suspected gas leak in Leicester Square. A number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution, and the square is currently closed to pedestrians.

PopHub, a co-working and studio space in Leicester Square, to advise those using their spaces to take an alternate route to the space. Megan Harrison, an employee from PopHub said that there are quite a few fire engines and police cars outside.

No one is allowed in the main parts of Leicester Square, particularly near the Odeon cinema and McDonalds. There are however routes available for people to walk around, near the Londoner Hotel.
