Train strikes and engineering work this weekend will disrupt key rail routes, causing limited services, cancellations, and overcrowded trains.

Train Strikes to Disrupt Welsh Rail Network This Weekend

Train services across Wales are set to face major disruptions this weekend as ongoing strikes by Avanti West Coast workers affiliated with the RMT union continue. The industrial action, scheduled to take place every Sunday until May 25, will result in a significantly reduced timetable, causing widespread inconvenience for travelers.

Passengers are strongly urged to avoid train travel on these strike days. Those with pre-booked tickets can claim full refunds, as the reduced services and limited operational hours are expected to create overcrowding on the few trains that will still run. This disruption is anticipated to affect a large number of travelers planning their journeys during the strike period.

Further complicating travel plans, planned engineering work will see rail replacement buses operating between Carlisle and Preston. Trains running on these dates will have restricted hours, with the first departure from London Euston scheduled after 8 a.m. and the final service leaving before 5 p.m., creating additional challenges for passengers.

Key routes will experience complete cancellations on January 12, with no Avanti West Coast services for destinations including North Wales, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Stoke-on-Trent, and Macclesfield. Popular stops such as Lancaster and Lake District stations, including Oxenholme and Penrith, will also be inaccessible due to the engineering work.

Travelers are advised to plan ahead and explore alternative transportation options during these disruptions. With limited services and significant route closures, checking schedules and making arrangements well in advance will be crucial to minimizing inconvenience.
