UK travel disruption, from passable to impossible, 10,000 flights cancelled

travelThe ‘mini beast from the east’ brought snow and ice to larger parts of UK overnight resulting in further travel disruption on Monday.

 

 

The Met office has further warned of snow and ice across the UK as bitterly cold temperature will hit.

 

 

 

There will be up to 30cm of snow in parts of the Devon and south-west England and will bear the brunt of freeze on Monday, in other parts of the region there will be up to 10 cm.
Between junction 31 and the M5 and the A38 in Bodmin the Highway England closed the A30 in both direction , the police described the condition as changing rapidly from passable to impossible.

 

The plummeting temperatures has cast a blanket of snow across the UK on Sunday an dthis comes after hundreds of flights were cancelled and sports events called off.

 

 

The Met office meteorologist said that Mark Wilson stated that it will be a very , very cold start along with widespread frost and ice.

 

 

Motorist everywhere were warned by the Highways Agency to drive with caution on Monday and to pack snow kits of blankets, food, water and a shovel in areas of heavy rainfall.

 

 

By Tuesday as per the Met Office forecasters stated that the temperatures was expected to return to more typical March condition by Tuesday that will end the unseasonably cold spring.

 

There was disruption in large parts of Britain, hundreds of flights were cancelled at airports across Britain that included 146 at Heathrow as runways were covered in snow.

 

Gatwick apologized and urged the travellers to check the situation with the airline.  Mountain rescue team was called to help 15 people stuck in a café near Kirby Stephen in Cumbria.

 

 

The traffic was brought to a standstill on some of the country’s busiest roads on Sunday that included M62 in Yorkshire.

The condition at the Saddleworth Moor in Yorkshire was described as ‘little bit wild’ and three snow ploughs were dispatched to the motorway.

 

 

Parts of England were also disrupted with an orange snow-ice warning extending to 6 pm for seven countries including Dublin.

 

 

The Met office gave yellow warning for Monday after taking into consideration that ice was on roads, pavements and the cycle paths.

 

 

 

The Met Office website mentioned that there will be an increasing risk of accidents and injuries due to falls. Parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. It will be extended to cover remaining parts of Eastern England and extreme south-west.
