India is celebrating ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. Hence, everyone should visit the National War Memorial and shower their praises to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives, said Arvind Singh, the Union Tourism Secretary.
At an occasion held at the memorial in New Delhi, homage was shown to the fallen heroes with 144 earthen pots on display holding soil from the birthplaces of Army martyrs from across India, including the 40 slain in the Pulwama attack.
On Wednesday, the ministry celebrated ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ at the memorial with a visit of several tourism-related stakeholders at the venue. The ministry also felicitated seven kith and kin of the martyrs.
The guests went for a conducted tour of the memorial, where they witnessed ‘laying the wreath ceremony’ which is observed daily. The evening concluded with ‘Beating the Retreat’ Drill before sunset.
More than 150 people from the travel trade industry, along with ‘Incredible India’ tourist guides, students, travel bloggers, social media influencers and other stakeholders participated in the event.
Spread over 40 acres in the middle of New Delhi, the National War Memorial stands as a tribute to all the soldiers who courageously fought for India and lost their lives.
The memorial was unveiled on February 25, 2019. It stands in the glow of the undying flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti as a national pride representing a country grateful to its soldiers.
