U.S. based carrier United Airlines has decided to largely increase the size of its August schedule as compared to June. The airline recently announced that it has decided to add nearly 25,000 more domestic and international flights as compared to July. It is also planning to fly 40% of its overall schedule in August, as compared to the same month last year. The carrier is also likely to add more than 350 daily flights from its United States hubs in August and might also double the number of flights from New York/Newark compared to July.

The increasing number of flights includes more flights to mountain and national park destinations like Aspen, Colorado; Bangor, Maine; Bozeman, Montana; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. As for its international schedule in August, the carrier will include a return to Tahiti and additional flights to Hawaii, the Caribbean and Mexico. The airline will add more flights and options to Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Munich, Paris and Zurich across the Atlantic.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and after months of travel restrictions, passenger travel demand have slowly started to increase as customers are returning to the sky with a preference for leisure destinations, trips to reunite with friends and family as well as getaways to places that encourage social distancing. In addition to the plans of tripling its schedule, United has also undertaken enhanced cleaning and safety procedures under United CleanPlus.

It is also offering customers more flexibility when booking by extending its waiver of change fees and award redeposit fees for reservations until July 31. Ankit Gupta, Vice President of Domestic Network Planning, United Airlines said in a press statement that airline is undertaking the same data-driven, realistic approach to growing its schedule as it did in decreasing the same at the start of the pandemic.

He informed as travel demand is gradually returning, the carrier is building enough capacity to stay ahead of the number of people travelling. He also mentioned that the carrier is adding flights to places where customers are eager to travel like outdoor recreation destinations with proper social distancing measures and also flexible. He said that the airline is also considering destinations that would allow it to adjust according to the changes of demands and conditions.
