Unravel domestic tourism, says the VP

Yesterday, Mr. Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Vice President, defined India as “heaven for tourism” and requested the Indians to unravel domestic tourism first and then look at international travel. While mentioning to the long civilization, history and rich cultural heritage of India, he stated that majority of country’s tourist places have a deep relation with India’s history, folk arts and ancient record.


While addressing in an assembly at VigyanBhawan, New Delhi, after presenting National Tourism Awards for the year 2018-19, Dhankar called tourism as the main driver of financial growth and employment generation in the country.


While mentioning to numerous dimensions of tourism, the Vice President emphasized the requirement for fully leveraging immense potential of India in medical tourism along with the rising global interest in India’s ancient healing practices like Ayurveda and Yoga.


While commending the initiations of the Indian Government for the development of the tourism sector in the country, Shri Dhankhar said that the tourism infrastructure development has been escorted with ground-breaking efforts like Dekho Apna Desh and Utsav Portal.


Dhankhar commended the Ministries of Tourism and Culture and their initiations of bringing out the stories of many unknown freedom fighters as part of the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Noting the significance of National Tourism Awards in driving the travel and tourism sectors, the Vice President applauded the winners of the award for their hard work and brilliance.
