Tourism leaders from the Americas have met face-to-face to talk about the present challenges along with prospects in terms of reinstating confidence in travel all over the province.
A special seminar on the UNWTO International Code for the Protection of Tourists (ICPT) highlighted interference of experts outlining the landmark legal framework. The consensus by the 24th UNWTO General Assembly in Madrid sanctioned the Code and is targeting to provide tourists with legal protection of greater heights as the world slowly reopens after experiencing two years damage cause by the pandemic.
To date, Guinea Bissau, Ecuador, Moldova and Paraguay have officially followed the ICPT. The main focus is of integrating all of the Code in their policies and legislations. Uruguay has declared it is set to do so. At present, Ecuador is creating its national Organic Tourism Law which is targeted developing the essential steps for the functioning of the ICPT within the country.
The technical seminar was arranged next to the 67th meeting of the UNWTO Commission for the Americas and the 1st International Congress on Tourism and Law, hosted by Uruguay together with UNWTO. Participants were presented with the outcome of a review that was conducted of late, measuring the possible effects of the ICPT on ‘visitor protection legislation and policies’ carried on by the Association of the Caribbean States in partnership with the UNWTO.
