International travel increased by 7% in 2017 as reported by the UN World Tourism Organization.
But then, a majority of these tourists actually prefer to check out Europe as their favored destination instead of heading to the Americas.
The preliminary data released by the UN discovered that in 2017, Spain overtook the US as the second most-visited tourist locale. France had occupied the top spot once more. Overall, Europe had witnessed an 8% rise in incoming travellers followed by Asia and the Pacific (6%), the Middle East (5%) and the Americas (3%) as reported by a news agency.
Though Western Europe had been disturbed by terror attacks in the last year, the popularity of the continent was owing to the ‘extraordinary’ growth in the Mediterranean and southern travel destinations that had observed a growth of nearly 13%.
North America particularly has been lagging behind in terms of tourist arrivals as it saw a growth of just 2%.
