UP government to renovate and transform palaces and forts into hotels

For boosting heritage tourism, the Maharajas and Taluqdars across UP have been asked to think of a planin a meeting with government representativesfor changing their palaces, forts and houses into hotels.


Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh stated that in this meeting, there will be discussions regardingrenewing the old forts on PPP model and opening them for the public and tourists. The meeting will be organized in the Tilak Hall of VidhanBhawan.


Singh said that many financiers, who have had knowledge of changing palaces into hotels, along with specialists from tourism divisions and the chairman of the Legislative Council, would take part in the meeting.


The minister said that tourism activities will be encouraged in UP by modernizing these forts similar to Rajasthan. Bundelkhand will grab focus, with 31 forts and palaces there, which can be transformed into hotels.


The emphasis will be on Jhansi Fort, which was once in the grip of the Chandela Kings between the 11th and 17th centuries. The fort is located in anexpansive 17-acre land and it can berenovated and transformed into a ritzy hotel.


The groundwork for the same has been done by the UP Tourism Board. They have shortlisted palaces after assessment by the CEPT University, Ahmedabad along with private advisors.


Among others areTalbehat Fort in Lalitpur, ChhattarManzil in Lucknow,Baruasagar Fort in Jhansi and Chunar Fort in Mirzapur.
