Urban-art-RioRio de Janeiro, home of the world’s second largest graffiti according to the Guinness World Records, will be the capital of urban art in the coming days. This weekend, on the 13th and 14th, the sixth edition of Arte Core will occupy the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), at Aterro do Flamengo, Rio’s South Zone.

Elephant Parade, in turn, occupies BarraShopping, in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone, and several streets in the city until November, with 60 elephant statues customized by great national artists.

A free festival, Arte Core, which puts together art, skate and music, gathered 30,000 people in 2017. This year’s edition, which runs from 10am to 10pm at MAM’s piloti and gardens, has attractions for the entire family, including skateboarding and graffiti workshops, debates, shows and DJs. In addition, the visual art gallery presents new works by young Brazilian artists. And if you get hungry, check out the food truck area.

The Elephant Parade, one of the largest art exhibitions in the world, will be in the city until November.

Sixty sculptures are already on display at BarraShopping, until the 31st, from 10am to 10pm. In November they will be on the city’s streets. The sculptures, the actual size of an elephant baby, have been to cities in Europe and Asia. At the end of each exhibition, the elephants are auctioned and part of the amount raised is earmarked for local philanthropy, elephant preservation projects and participating artists.

In addition to the events, fans of urban art can contemplate several works that in recent years have integrated the exuberant landscape of the second largest city in Brazil. The Etnias mural, painted by graffiti artist Eduardo Kobra, bringing more color the Olympic Boulevard in Rio’s City Center, is the second largest graffiti in the world, with 2,600 square meters.

The wall is inspired by the Olympic hoops and represents peace and unity among peoples, portraying the faces of five natives. In addition, the space also has graffiti of another 20 artists, forming an open air gallery.
