Travel And Tour World: What have you planned for the next 12 months?

Gregor Gosciniak: We have the biggest sports event coming up in Germany in Cologne in May, which is the Ice Hockey World Championship. We are looking forward to many visitors from all over the world, coming for three weeks of ice hockey entertainment. We will be sharing this event with Paris. So there are two host cities, Cologne and Paris. We are expecting quite a few fans from countries like Russia, Latvia, we have the Swedish National team coming in, there is also the American National team. It is going to be fun and exciting.

Travel And Tour World: What is the new Urban initiative?

Gregor Gosciniak: Yes, we have the new Urban CGN, which is a new block, where travel writers share their views about the city of Cologne. This is focusing on the younger traveller. It also focuses on the audience who want to explore Cologne off the beaten tracks, where to go for shopping, where to find unique music concerts, etc.

Travel And Tour World: Can you tell us about the number of visitors that can arrive in the country?

Gregor Gosciniak: We do have 7 million overnights in a year, which is quite a big number. This is a very big city which is full of attractions. Last year we had a little minus of about 3% in overnight, simply because e 2015, has been a record breaking year with 7 million overnights. The exhibition schedule has been slightly different in 2016, than it is going to be in 2017. So we are expecting another big year in 2017.

Travel And Tour World: Outside your special events, what are the other kind of things that people like about your city?

Gregor Gosciniak: We are Germany’s number one tourist attraction. We have 4.5 million visitors coming here every year. There are outstanding UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city is full of great shopping opportunity. The city has amazing diversity in terms of museum or fun places like the Chocolate museum, where you can have chocolate from the chocolate fountain. There is also the Rhine River Cruise. There are many more attractions in the city which do make Cologne a unique well worth visiting tourist attraction.
