The US, Canada, Japan and Australia -these 4 countries are included in the group that needed to pay for a visa to enter Brazil. However from January 2018, the system to process the Visiting Visa has modified. At present, the citizens of these countries can send all their documentation and do the payment via online without visiting the Brazilian consulates located in their country.
Also, the price has changed. Now they must pay USD 40 plus transaction expenses: USD 4.24, an amount that is not compensated, if the visa is not granted.
During registration, a valid passport has to be produced and it must remain so during the entire period of your stay and even 30 days after completing your trip. Besides, the passport must be in good condition and should be readable as well.
As soon as you land at the airport, the authorities will look for your passport along with the hard copy of your eVisa that you have already received via e-mail, in .pdf format
With this system you can apply for the Tourism Visa, valid for only 90 days. However, also for other visas aimed at carrying out specific activities in the country: journalism, business, studies, etc.
