US tourists helping Southeast Asia in its revival journey

The recent information of the travel industry shows that while Southeast Asia has been falling behind other countries of the world in its revival process from the pandemic, US visitors are coming back in huge numbers compared to other markets.


From 1st January to 31st May, travel to Southeast Asia climbed 18% of pre-pandemic levels, in contrary to travel to Europe which reached 55%. To the Americas, it reached 66% and to the Middle East & Africa, it reached 64%.


Looking forward to the summer months i.e. from June to August, for Southeast Asia, flight bookings are at 43% of the levels existed during pre-pandemic times whereas for Europe, bookings are at 70%. For the Americas, bookings are at 78% and for the Middle East & Africa, bookings are at 85%.


Study of the bookings of the long-haul flights this summer shows that travel from the USA is expected to reach 75% of what it was in 2019. Australia is the next healthiest source markets where bookings are at present have a lot catch up on at 60% of the pre-pandemic levels. The UK is at 47%, followed by Germany at 58%, and France at 57% respectively.


For US tourists, the most preferred destinations are Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia. The US tourists are famous for being spending high on average trip durations. This visitor profile is quite well-off, with 17% flying in the front of the plane, in comparison to 9 percent during the same time in 2019.
