As the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup enters its final stretch, Vancouver is preparing for an influx of fans that will dwarf any event since the 2010 Winter Olympics. To keep the city moving, TransLink has officially pulled the curtain back on a “unprecedented” transit service plan. From SkyTrains arriving every two minutes to dedicated shuttles for the Fan Festival at the PNE, the message is clear: if you’re heading to a match, leave the car at home.
The backbone of the World Cup experience will be the Expo, Millennium, and Canada Lines. On match days at BC Place, TransLink is shifting into a “Continuous Rush Hour” mode.
Crucial Match Day Note: Access to BC Place from Stadium–Chinatown and Yaletown-Roundhousestations will be restricted on local match days to manage pedestrian flow. Fans are encouraged to use Main Street–Science World or walk from other downtown points.
While the stadium is the heart of the action, the FIFA Fan Festival at the PNE (Hastings Park) will be the soul, welcoming up to 25,000 fans daily.

The expansion isn’t limited to the downtown core. TransLink is ensuring that fans coming from the North Shore and the Tri-Cities have reliable options.
For locals, the “FIFA Plan” might sound like a recipe for congestion, but TransLink’s strategy is designed to insulate regular commuters from the “match-day madness.” By flooding the system with extra vehicles and staff, the goal is to maintain a sense of normalcy for those just trying to get to work.

“We aren’t just building a plan for the fans; we’re building a plan for the city,” says a TransLink operations coordinator. “We learned from 2010 that the key is predictability. If a train comes every two minutes, the stress levels drop instantly.”
Beyond the trains and buses, the city is embracing the “Last Mile”—a pedestrian-only fan zone and celebration route along Pacific Boulevard. This 3-km stretch between Yaletown and Science World will be the primary artery for fans walking to the stadium, filled with activations, food trucks, and music, turning the transit journey into part of the event itself.
