At the India-Vietnam Tourism Promotion Conference organized on August 17 in Ho Chi Minh City, government officials and industry representatives from both countries assembled and deliberated on ways to encourage inbound tourism from India.

Held by the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, the gathering was graced by Pham Van Thuy, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) along with the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, Pranay Verma.

Understanding that business relations between travel firms in both countries are important for growing the travel market in Vietnam, 34 travel companies from both countries engaged in discussions and exchanged tourism information to spur demand for travel by Indians to Vietnam.

In addition to leisure travellers, Vietnam is eager to promote itself as MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) destination along with overseas wedding venue.

A 460 business leaders group spent three days in Hi Chi Minh City in July on a tour held by B2B travel company Asia Destination Management (Asia DMC).

Vietnam is actively encouraging Indians to visit their country by means of bilateral conferences and other activities counting in sponsored trips for businesses. VNAT is eager that these activities will allow its travel industry to explore a market which has a population of 1.4 billion.

In June, flag carrier Vietnam Airlines initiated direct flights between New Delhi and Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City – the two major cities of Vietnam.
