Vietnam is preparing towelcome international travelers; however, a lack of clarity regarding the rules of a wider reopening with the ongoing pandemic is causing misunderstanding.
It is still not known as to what kind of quarantine and testing rules Vietnam will impose on foreign visitors after its reopening, after a two-year hiatus.
The tourism recommencement was announced on Feb. 17 and the Vietnam government said that it would lift maximumrestrictions.
A month before, the Vietnam government said that tourists need to present proof of vaccination or their recovery from Covid-19 with a negative test result. Once tourists land in Vietnam, they must go through 24 hours of self-quarantine.
In November, Vietnam started allowing international travelers on group tours and select destinations if they are vaccinated or have recovered from the virus, and can provide a negative test taken in the past 72 hours or less.
Deputy Premier Vu Duc Dam asked the health ministry to “promptly revise regulations and requirements” for foreign tourists and send the proposal to the tourism ministry by the end of March 14. However, a guidance isn’t yet available on government websites.
Officials announced resumption of 15-day visa exemptions for citizens of 13 countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and South Korea.
