Vietnam’s Tourism Growth and Rising Digital Engagement Set Stage for Record-Breaking Economic and Entertainment Performance

Published on January 8, 2026

Vietnam’s tourism industry reached an unprecedented milestone in 2025, welcoming more than 21.17 million international travelers, representing a 20.4 percent increase from the previous year. This achievement marks the highest number of foreign arrivals in the nation’s history and underscores Vietnam’s growing prominence as one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic and rapidly expanding travel destinations. Compared with pre-pandemic figures in 2019, this represents an increase of nearly 18 percent, reflecting a remarkable recovery and heightened global interest.

The month of December alone saw more than 2 million international visitors, a year-on-year rise of 15.7 percent, highlighting consistent growth and strong momentum heading into 2026. This influx of travelers has not only fueled the hospitality and retail sectors but has also stimulated Vietnam’s digital entertainment and gaming markets, as increased visitor spending supports mobile games, online casinos, and other leisure platforms.

Chinese Tourists Drive Growth With Vietnam Surpassing Regional Competitors

Tourists from the Chinese mainland remained the largest group of international visitors, accounting for 25 percent of the total. In 2025, around 5.28 million Chinese travelers visited Vietnam, a 41.3 percent increase over 2024. South Korea followed with approximately 4.33 million visitors, while Taiwan contributed 1.23 million arrivals.

Vietnam has now overtaken Thailand as the preferred destination for Chinese tourists in the region, as Thailand saw a 33 percent decline in arrivals from China due to regional safety concerns and geopolitical tensions. This shift emphasizes Vietnam’s growing reputation as a secure, culturally vibrant, and accessible destination for travelers from key Asian markets.

The strong growth has positioned Vietnam to pursue an ambitious goal of 25 million international visitors in 2026. Expansions in tourism infrastructure, transportation networks, and hospitality facilities are enabling the country to accommodate this rising demand while maintaining high service standards.

Tourism Sparks Broader Economic Growth and Expands Services Sector

The surge in international visitors has had a direct impact on Vietnam’s economy. According to national statistics, the country’s GDP grew by 8.02 percent in 2025, with the services sector expanding even faster at 8.62 percent. Services, now contributing over half of the nation’s total value added, have benefited from increased spending in hotels, restaurants, transportation, entertainment venues, and retail outlets.

This rise in tourism has also opened opportunities for domestic businesses and foreign investors alike. Hotels, resorts, cultural attractions, and recreational venues are expanding operations to meet the rising demand from international tourists. Urban and coastal areas have particularly benefited, with local enterprises experiencing higher revenues from dining, shopping, and experiential tourism, further cementing Vietnam’s status as a leading regional tourism hub.

Gaming and Digital Entertainment See Rapid Expansion

Vietnam’s gaming and digital entertainment sectors are experiencing significant growth alongside tourism. While official figures for gambling-related gross revenue are not published, industry estimates indicate that GGR in 2024 ranged between $800 million and $1.2 billion, covering online casinos, betting platforms, and other digital gaming activities, including unregulated markets.

Revenue from mobile gaming and digital entertainment continues to grow, with estimates for 2024 at approximately $492–493 million and projections for 2025 exceeding $430 million. The wider iGaming sector, including online casinos, lotteries, and betting, is expected to reach $1.66 billion in 2025, driven by increasing digital engagement and tourism-driven spending.

Experts suggest that 2026 could become a turning point for Vietnam’s gaming and entertainment markets, as increasing international arrivals, growing digital adoption, and evolving regulations converge. The synergy between tourism growth and online leisure consumption positions the country for significant innovation and investment opportunities.

Vietnam Emerging as a Key Travel and Entertainment Hub in Southeast Asia

Vietnam’s record-breaking performance in 2025 demonstrates its rising influence in the regional travel and leisure market. The combination of scenic landscapes, cultural heritage, urban experiences, and expanding digital entertainment offerings makes the country a compelling destination for global travelers.

With continued growth in both tourism and the digital economy, Vietnam is increasingly becoming a central hub for travel, services, and online entertainment in Southeast Asia. The sustained momentum highlights a promising future for investors, tourism operators, and digital entertainment companies, establishing Vietnam as one of the region’s most attractive and dynamic destinations.
