At Marambalpada, the Mangrove Foundation has built up its first ecotourism village. It’s located 5kms from Virar station. There, the foundation has developed a Mangrove and Marine Biodiversity Information Centre along with boat safari, bird watching facility, nature trails, mangrove boardwalk, and other adventurous activities.

Virendra Tiwari, the additional principal chief conservator of forests, Mangrove Cell, said that the development of the Mangrove and Marine Biodiversity Information Centre will help in boosting Marambalpada’s ecotourism. Also, for the locals, it will help in generating additional revenue and give them confidence to improve their efforts in conserving mangroves. For the centre, Maharashtra Maritime Board has provided land as well. The centre is built with three containers to keep away from harming the surrounding areas, as it’s a CRZ area. Around Rs. 45 lakh was invested behind the centre, with NGO Inner Wheel Club contributing almost Rs. 15 lakh and the remaining has been done by the Foundation.

For Rs 10 lakh, a 12-seater boat was bought with the locals paying Rs 1 lakh. The boat will be activated after the monsoons.

The ecologist & deputy director, Mangrove Foundation, Sheetal Pachpande, said that the centre’s unique feature is the top viewing deck. It offers a 360-degree view of the mangroves.
