Anaheim’s official destination organization, Visit Anaheim, has achieved the esteemed designation of being a Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) conferred by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This recognition is granted to organizations whose staff undergo specialized training and certification processes to enhance their understanding of and support for autistic and sensory-sensitive visitors and their families when exploring the Anaheim area.
Christina Dawson, Senior Vice President of Operations at Visit Anaheim, emphasized the significance of this accomplishment, stating, “Visit Anaheim’s designation as a Certified Autism Center™ signifies our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. It’s not just about what our city offers; it’s about ensuring that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can experience the magic of our vibrant destination.”
This achievement marks the initial phase of Visit Anaheim’s broader initiative to transform Anaheim into a Certified Autism Destination™ (CAD). This ambitious goal aims to provide visitors with a range of trained and certified options, including entertainment, recreation, and hospitality choices. Visit Anaheim has collaborated with IBCCES to engage key players in the tourism, hospitality, and recreation sectors within the community to undergo autism training and certification. This collective effort is intended to earn the community designation and attract new visitors while better serving residents.
Myron Pincomb, IBCCES board chairman, commended Visit Anaheim, stating, “IBCCES is proud to present Visit Anaheim with the Certified Autism Center™ designation, signifying their ongoing commitment to creating a warm welcome for every person that visits their city. We’re excited to continue working with the city on their continued inclusivity initiative to become a Certified Autism Destination™ and further expand their accessibility offerings.”
With over two decades of experience, IBCCES has been at the forefront of cognitive disorder training and certification for professionals in healthcare, education, and corporate sectors globally. IBCCES programs incorporate evidence-based content, perspectives from autistic individuals, ongoing support, and renewal requirements to ensure continuous learning and a lasting impact.
In addition to its certification programs, IBCCES manages AutismTravel.com, a complimentary online resource aiding families in planning their leisure experiences. This platform features a curated list of certified destinations, each meeting the rigorous requirements of the Certified Autism Center (CAC) designation.
