The number of visitors in outback Queensland grew during the two years of the COVID-19 induced travel restrictions.

However, wet weather and steep prices of fuel are playing a spoilsport with tourists choosing to stay away during a time, when it should be the peak season.

Businesses in the Queensland Outback are reporting a slow start to the tourist season, which usuallystarts during the long Easter weekend.

Key points:
• Inland tourism has increased as international borders closed to travel.
• A sluggish start to the tourist spellcan be due to the recent closures of road due to the rains in April.
• Tourists need to squeeze their budgets with rising fuel prices.

With closures of international borders obstructing travel plans abroad, a record number of domestic tourists have seized the opportunity and explored the country of Australia in the past two years.
