The inflow of visitors to tourism sites in Ernakulam is less than what was anticipated, in spite of relaxation of pandemic-related measures from November 1. However, destinations in Idukki, especially Munnar, are witnessing greater number of visitors.

Water theme parks like Silver Storm on the Athirappilly route have closed temporarily after reopening earlier this month, but the number of visitors was negligible.

K. Ramachandran, general manager of the park said, “This is because the Forest Department has not yet reopened the Athirappilly waterfalls and nearby locales. This has affected resorts and hotels in the vicinity.”

In Ernakulam, beach locales and those at the side of water bodies are seeing a reasonable number of visitors, including tourists from neighboring states, during weekends and public holidays.

However, on working days, footfall is less than expected although stakeholders are expecting that tourists from northern India will arrive in groups during the festive season, said S. Vijayakumar, the secretary of the Ernakulam District Tourism Promotion Council.

The DTPC and Kerala Tourism have brought in an SOP (standard operating procedure) following COVID-19 protocols in all locales.
