A study that involved 321 million social engagements discovered that over the last year, the travel-related wearables have increased by as much as 44%. Partly, the launch of the Princess Cruises Ocean Medallion back in the month of January can be attributed to this growing technology trend.
The Ocean Medallion is actually a quarter-sized device that is able to serve as the digital identity of travellers.
Virtual reality and augmented reality are among the other popular travel trends, as determined by this Adobe survey. This Adobe report is based on 16 billion visits to the major US travel websites. This study has found that about at least eight of the largest hotels across the world have observed a certain level of Virtual reality experience over the last six months.
This survey has also discovered that the social mentions of augmented and virtual reality technology have risen 13% year-on-year.
On the other hand, the sales for related hardware have increased by an overwhelming eight times for the 2016 holiday season. But then, certain portions of the travel industry have also started to witness the negative impacts of the technology.
Car rentals that are made online have decreased by nearly 14% during the initial quarter of 2017.
However, higher airline ticket prices have also been responsible for the decrease in the demand for rented cars.
