Winter Weather Advisory for Saturday morning in west of Washington D.C.

National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Advisory Saturday morning for threat of freezing rain and ice in west of Washington D.C.

 

 

The advisory will be in effect from 3 a.m. to noon for portions of western and northern Maryland, northern and northwest Virginia and the eastern panhandle of West Virginia.

 

 

 

Total ice accumulation of around one tenth of an inch is expected, before the wintry precipitation turns to plain rain around noon Saturday.  The advisory mentioned that greater accumulations up to two-tenths of an inch of ice can be expected west of Hagerstown along the Interstate 68 corridor, and the northern Shenandoah Valley Interstate 81 corridor, including Winchester VA and Martinsburg WV.

 

 

 

The areas covered in the Winter Weather Advisory in Maryland include Montgomery County, Northwest Howard County, Frederick County, Carroll County, Washington County, Northern Baltimore County and Northwest Harford County.

 

 

 

In Virginia the advisory has been issued for Fairfax County, Fauquier County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, Stafford County, Manassas, Manassas Park, Culpeper County, Orange County, Frederick County, Clarke County, Rappahannock County, and Warren County.

 

 

 

In West Virginia the areas covered by the Winter Weather Advisory are Berkeley County, Jefferson County, and Morgan County.

 

 

 

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued from 3 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in extreme western Allegany County in Maryland and Western Mineral and Eastern Mineral counties in West Virginia.

 

 

Freezing rain could result to slippery surfaces, especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses and drivers should remain cautious.
