Should UNWTO unlock a bottle of Don Perion about the newest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer elaborate report on tourism upturn? Dr. Peter Tarlow, President of World Tourism Network and safety security specialist will not yet connect the Secretary-General, UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili in this toast.

As per the recent UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, international tourism in the initial five months of this year witnessed a powerful bounce back, with around 250 million foreign arrivals recorded. This compares to the statistics between January to May 2021 with around 77 million arrivals and means that the sector has bounced back with almost 46% of the levels of the pre-pandemic times.

The information provided by UNWTO in the recently published UNWTO barometer underscore this huge development in the revival of the tourism sector.

Maybe, prior to the opening the second bottle of Don Perion, look at an aggressive gale that’s by now roaring on the horizon. Ambiguity about tourism’s bright picture becomes even more intimidating by the day.

UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili said that the revival of tourism has got good speed in various countries of the world, enduring the challenges that are standing in its way. Also, he suggested words of caution keeping in mind the financial headwinds and geopolitical disputes which have a chance to affect the sector in the remaining months of this year and beyond.

Record high price rises, the unevenness of the US Dollar, a strong Ruble in spite of sanctions, Ukraine and Russia war, and a probable food and energy shortage can push tourism to a dark corner with no hassle.
