Wizz Air, Europe’s low-cost carrier has announced that the airline company plans to establish a subsidiary airline in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Abu Dhabi Government Media Office said on social media that Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company (ADDH) announces a preliminary agreement with Wizz Air Holdings airline, to launch a low-cost airline in the emirate.
The airline will be formed via a joint venture with Wizz Air, with operations expected to launch in the second quarter of 2020. With its “green” fleet of Airbus A321neo aircraft, the world’s most efficient narrow-body aircraft, the new airline will gain access to markets across Europe and beyond.
This will be the second low-cost carrier that will enter the market in Abu Dhabi. Previously, Abu Dhabi’s leading airline Etihad Airways and Sharjah’s low-cost carrier Air Arabia announced an agreement to start a new low-cost passenger airline which will be based in the UAE capital. Overall, it will be the sixth airline to fly from the UAE after Etihad Airways, Emirates, Air Arabia, Flydubai and Air Arabia Abu Dhabi.
With this, it looks like the middle east airline market is going to be reshaped majorly in the next five or ten years. Following this, Indian passengers flying to Europe via Abu Dhabi will have varied airline options to choose from.
