The regional director for UNWTO Africa has explained that the President of Seychelles has recently been invited to visit the headquarters of the United Nations World Tourism Organization in Spain. Director, Elsia Grandcourt, a Seychellois national, has informed the reporters that on Thursday during her formal visit to Wavel Ramkalawan at State House she extended the invitation on behalf of the UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili.
Grandcourt, a former chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board, joined the UNWTO as regional director for Africa in August 2013 and is based at the headquarters in Madrid, Spain. Now, she is back in the island nation in the western Indian Ocean for vacation.
She mentioned that her talks with the President had discussed on tourism industry of Seychelles.
In March Seychelles had reopened its international borders with the aim to re-launch its tourism industry which got massively affected by the slump in travel as a result of the pandemic.
Grandcourt stated that as the tourism sector worldwide encountered a severe turbulence from the pandemic, “I believe that Seychelles has taken some good decisions.”
“We see the vaccination programme that started and the protocols in place in the various tourism establishments have given the tourists the trust to come back to Seychelles,” she said.
