Athens hopes to 5.5 million record touristsThe recent record of 5.5 million visitor arrivals is anticipated for Athens, the Greek capital city this year, as per the figures presented on Monday, at the time of a press conference organized on the first day of the Travel Trade Athens 2018, the Greek capital’s signature yearly trade event that targets to introduce collaborations between foreign hosted buyers and Greek tourism and hospitality professionals.

 
According to Georgios Kaminis, Athens Mayor, the Travel Trade Athens event, is currently in its sixth year, has considerably boosted city break tourist arrivals.

 
The mayor defined that ever since 2013, when the first Travel Trade Athens event started, city break arrivals to the city has seen a 600 percent growth.

 
This was echoed by Athens International Airport (AIA) CEO Yiannis Paraschis who mentioned to the huge increase in tourist arrivals to Athens, a trend that started in 2013, when the number of tourists visiting the city was 2.5 million. “We reached 5 million tourists in 2017 and the numbers show that this year we will reach 5.5 million, which is a new record,” Paraschis said.
