Nikolina Angelkova, the Bulgarian Tourism Minister explained on Saturday that around 5.2 million foreign tourists’ explored Bulgaria in the initial seven months of this year, a growth of around 7% in comparison to the first seven months of last year. Angelkova stated that her ministry’s aim of 10 million foreign tourists visiting Bulgaria in 2019 was “realistic”.
In the initial six months of this year, revenue of Bulgaria from tourism was around 1.3 billion leva ($771 million), which was almost 10% more than in the first half of 2017, Angelkova said.
“Bulgaria is becoming more and more known as a destination that offers good quality at a reasonable price,” she said.
While speaking in the spa resort town of Velingrad, Angelkova mentioned that the spa destinations in the Rhodope mountain area were quite competitive in Bulgaria and had immense possibility to draw thousands of tourists from home and abroad with high quality services. The Rhodope area of Bulgaria is one of seven spa destinations being endorsed by the Tourism Ministry of Bulgaria.
Angelkova stated that the development of spa destinations in Bulgaria is part of her overall strategy of the ministry for promoting Bulgaria as a year-round destination.
