With the Global Youth Tourism Summit in progress in Sorrento, Italy, His Holiness urged young contestants to make the most of the exclusive prospect of improving the knowledge and the dexterity that they will require to create a superior prospect for tourism along with for their home communities.


Pope Francis said to the young participants that the experiences that they will gather will be preserved in their memories. That is how they will grow and be ready to take up more important roles. He said that the young contestants will be the envoys of optimism and of revival for the future. The Pope then conveyed his blessings and compliments.


His Holiness also welcomed the dedication of the young participants for initiating peace and harmony. For the Summit, it is a milestone first for the tourism sector and the UNWTO, since it prioritizes empowerment of the youth along with education and instruction. Around 130 students from 60 countries will be participating in a succession of workshops, discussions and debates. All participants are between 12 and 18 of age and comprise a delegation from Ukraine.


The Summit rejoices and upholds the role that would be played by young people in shaping the tourism sector in the years in the offing.


Zurab Pololikashvili, the UNWTO Secretary-General said that the Global Youth Tourism Summit would celebrate the role of the young people in shaping the tourism sector in the coming years.
