The Yukon Sustainable Tourism Observatory, arranged by the Yukon Government of Yukon will recognize, calculate and understand the conditions related to sustainable tourism to control evidence-based decision making. This step will assist Yukon to manage post-pandemic revival in a better way along with future growth and development, making sure the sector is handled in a responsible and sustainable way.

UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili said that they’ve welcomed Yukon warmly into the rising global network of observatories. The Observatory has the possibility to assist Yukon and its tourism in a better way, renewing and growing sustainably for the benefit of visitors.

Canada’s one of the vast northern territories, Yukon has a powerful and burgeoning tourism sector. “Sustainable Tourism. Our path. Our Future. 2018-2028” – Yukon’s tourism strategy has urged to set up a framework that would gauge the progress on the goals related to sustainable tourism development at par with the goals, vision and actions of the Strategy. Yukon went on to build an observatory on sustainable tourism within the INSTO Framework. The main target was to impart the sector with knowledge of sustainability to make knowledgeable decisions.

Minister of Tourism and Culture of Yukon, Ranj Pillai, explained that they are proud to be a part of this important network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories as the first northern member of Canada. The Yukon Sustainable Tourism Framework will impel the change towards the development of sustainable tourism.
