Yukon Striker, the longest, fastest and tallest dive roller coaster drop in the world as per Canada’s Wonderland opens. Visitors can enjoy 245-foot straight dive into an abyss of an underwater tunnel.
According to coaster designers Bolliger & Mabillard, a dive coaster has a “straight vertical drop with riders facing down (that) creates a different ride experience.”
As the name “Yukon Striker” implies, the theme of the coaster will be late 1800s gold rush Canada, when adventurers poured into the northwestern Yukon territory in search of fast wealth.
So what makes Yukon Striker breathtaking?
The maximum speed can reach up to 80 mph (130 km/h). Riders can travel 3,625 ft, (1,105 m). That equates to length of 10 US football fields, which includes the end zones, or 12 fields if you count the 100 yards from goal line to goal line. It has four inversions – turned upside down and then returned right side up.
Yukon Striker has floorless seating for enhanced visibility – a three-second dangle before riders are released into the straight drop and a 360-degree loop, which the park says has never before been on a dive coaster. The drop is as sharp as 90-degree.
If this looks daunting, the park has plenty of other coasters to try.
