In conference tourism, Thessaloniki reaches record rank

In the past decade, Thessaloniki reached its highest spot related to conference tourism, protothema.gr reports. As per data from the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) declared by the Thessaloniki Convention Bureau (TCB), in 2018, Thessaloniki gained ten places compared to 2017 and was positioned 93rd in the world ranking. Particularly, in 2018, it organized a record number of 29 conferences, with a total of 5,770 delegates. Twenty-nine conferences were organized in the city, of which 19 arranged between 50 to 149 participants. In 2017, in terms of the European rankings, Thessaloniki moved up to the 53rd place from 59th.Paris ranked the first spot in the global rankings, with 212 conferences in 2018, followed by Vienna, Madrid, Barcelona, and Berlin.

 

As far as countries are concerned, in 2018, Greece was in 25th place, 5 spots up from its 31st position in 2017, with the United States of America, Germany, and Spain leading the list. Germany, Spain, and France hold the top positions in Europe, with Greece occupying 14th place.
