East Midlands TrainsLocal choirs performed at Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Sheffield and Lincoln stations and brought joy to customers while they were travelling.

The annual event celebrates music of all genres and looks to find new and innovative ways of bringing communities together and is centred on key themes. One of the themes being ‘Platform to Perform’ where choirs and singing groups from across the UK performed at railway stations at the heart of their local communities throughout the day. There were also a number of special guests from the world of music who made appearances and performances at stations.

Adam Piddington, Customer Experience Director at East Midlands Trains, said: “’Platform to Perform’ is a fantastic event for East Midlands Trains to be involved in, music brings people together and if we can brighten up our passengers days with a simple song then that makes us happy.”

The Poacher Line hosted a Music Train on the day. The Nottingham to Skegness line is part of the National Railway network operated by East Midlands Trains.

Kaye Robinson, Community Rail Officer for Lincolnshire County Council said: “We host Music Trains throughout the year and we worked with East Midlands Trains and the BBC to host an event on BBC Music day to share live music on board the journey to Batemans Brewery.

“Trains provide an unusual, quirky venue for live music and the band Itchy Fingers who performed on Friday were a perfect choice. Everybody was in good spirits and enjoyed the live music.”

Other themes focus on ‘Women in Music’, celebrating music performances by women to highlight and celebrate women working across all areas of the music industry. ‘Get Singing’ where BBC Music Day teamed up with Ex Cathedra’s Singing Playgrounds, Young Voices, Sing Up and BBC Ten Pieces to inspire children to get singing in schools across the UK and ‘Music and Wellbeing’, which explores the different ways in which music can change lives and improve health and wellbeing. This year, they have launched BBC Music Memories, a website designed to help people with dementia.
