Sikkim and Bangladesh aims to have tourism facilitating centre at Siliguri and a Bagdogra-Dhaka flight for encouraging tourists from Bangladesh to visit Sikkim.

The discussion on these points took place between Sikkim Chief Minister P.S. Golay and 2 Bangladeshi diplomats. Syed Muazzem Ali, High Commissioner and Zahid-ul-Islam, minister, the embassy of Bangladesh held discussions with the Sikkim Chief Minister.

A tourism facilitating centre, if established in Fulbari close to Siliguri, would be an excellent opportunity for tourists from Bangladesh to visit Sikkim.

Last year, the Indian government had increased restrictions for Bangladeshi tourists to visit Sikkim, Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. After this, visa provision centres were opened within the Indian embassy at Dhaka. The summer tourism season of 2019 in Sikkim witnessed good footfalls of Bangladeshi tourists.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister conjointly projected for a Bagdogra-Dhaka flight for assisting tourists visiting Sikkim.
