Violent thunderstorms predicted in Deep South, alert for Thursday floods

There is an increased risk of flash flooding through Thursday and residents across parts of Deep South were put on high alert for violent thunderstorms.

On Tuesday and Wednesday a couple of tornadoes had hit northern, western and eastern Texas and the latest storm system triggering the dangerous weather is the same.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rathbun said that in  addition, the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex was hit hard with flooding rain on Tuesday night, with over 1.50 inches of rain falling in just one hour’s time in Fort Worth on Tuesday evening.

From Tuesday into Tuesday night alone Texas was being hit be strong winds and parts of western and northern Texas  received upwards of 5 to 6 inches of rain.

The storms ramped up in intensity throughout the day after a relative lull in the storms Wednesday morning.On Wednesday  a Texas A&M class was able to watch a tornado touch down from the Eller Oceanology and Meteorology Building on campus in College Station, Texas.

On Thursday the greatest threat for severe weather will shift into central and eastern Louisiana and Mississippi. It is expected on Thursdays that travel on interstate 55 from New Orleans to Jackson, Mississippi, will deteriorate.

There will be major delays  in interstates 10 and 20 along with secondary roadways, motorist should be sure to turn around if encountering a flooded roadway.

Many streams across the Deep South are already in minor to moderate flood stage, this is inclusive of the entire length of the Mississippi River.

The ongoing flooding problems will only exacerbate by the additional rains and will cause major flooding on some creeks and rivers. An isolated tornado is expected in the southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi.

Rathbun added that  Inbound and outbound flights are likely to be delayed or possibly even diverted to other airports as the severe thunderstorms roll through New Orleans on Thursday afternoon,.
