Over 1,200 passengers stranded in Tanzania Morogoro region due to a collapsed railway line from heavy rains; TRC working on solutions.
Over 1,200 rail travelers found themselves marooned in Eastern Tanzania’s Morogoro area following the collapse of a railway line due to torrential rains on Thursday evening, according to a statement issued on Friday.
Masanja Kadogosa, the head of the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), reported that the incident occurred while the train was en route from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s economic center, to the western Kigoma region.
Kadogosa, in a telephonic interview with Xinhua, mentioned that dedicated engineers are tirelessly working to repair the damaged section of the railway.
In a related development, Herman Ngonyani, the interim regional manager of TRC for Morogoro, noted that similar railway disruptions caused by the heavy rainfall have led to the halting of two additional passenger trains in the Dodoma and Singida regions, though the exact number of passengers impacted was not specified.
Ngonyani also stated that TRC is organizing bus transportation to aid those passengers left without rail transport.
