An outbreak of gastrointestinal symptoms, including vomiting and diarrhea, has affected passengers and crew aboard a cruise liner in the United States, as reported by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in a recent notification. The agency disclosed that on the Queen Victoria, a minimum of 123 travelers and 16 staff members have experienced sickness since the ship departed from Florida on January 22. The exact cause of these symptoms remains unidentified, but officials highlight that vomiting and diarrhea are the primary complaints among the afflicted individuals.

The CDC provided specific figures, noting that 6.74% of the passengers (123 out of 1,824) and 1.65% of the crew (16 out of 967) have reported sickness during the journey.

In an effort to manage the outbreak, the Cunard Cruise Line, which operates the Queen Victoria, has quarantined those affected and has ramped up its cleaning and sanitization efforts in line with its outbreak prevention and control strategy. The CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program is closely observing the situation onboard to ensure the health and safety of all passengers and crew.

It’s important to note that the reported cases of illness represent the total number for the entire trip and do not indicate the number of individuals currently showing symptoms at any specific location or at the time of leaving the ship.

The voyage, which is a 16-night journey that began in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is expected to make a stop in San Francisco on February 7 and reach Honolulu five days later, as per a report by the New York Post.
