Around 42 speakers at the first-ever Global Responsible Tourism Summit dropped in at Kerala Tourism’s innovative STREET project in picturesque Maravanthuruthu in the Kottayam district. With that, the event ended pledging for application of suggestions to drive the Kerala’s important travel and tourism sector.
Involving foreign and Indian representatives, the team was given a cordial greeting accompanied by a cultural Chendamelam group at the experiential tourism destination with its extensive backwaters in the village of Maravanthuruthu, 25 kms north of Kumarakom.
K. Rupesh Kumar, Kerala Responsible Tourism Mission Coordinator greeted the guests in the company of K.B. Rama, the Gram Panchayat President and Vice-President V.T. Prathapan.
The visitors networked with the local groups. Cultural programmes took place thereafter as part of the Government’s inventive scheme known as STREET (Sustainable, Tangible, Responsible, Experiential, Ethnic Tourism).
Maravanthuruthu is the first STREET center, launched 10 months earlier.
The visiting team included notable delegates from the overseas and India.
