Jamaica and Barbados Tighten Digital Arrival Rules

Kingston and Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Bridgetown, Barbados, are some of the Caribbean entry points where travellers are being asked to fill out their immigration and customs declaration forms digitally prior to arriving, thus another step in the preparation process for tourists visiting the Caribbean region in September 2026. Travellers coming to Montego Bay via Sangster International Airport and those travelling to Barbados via Grantley Adams International Airport are expected to fill out the relevant digital form prior to boarding their aircraft. As per the Barbados Immigration Department, the Immigration and Customs Form of Barbados is available online 72 hours prior to one’s arrival, with the receipt printed or kept in one’s phone.
Jamaica moves arrivals online
Jamaica already operates a mandatory electronic passenger declaration for travellers arriving by air or cruise ship. The country’s tourism authority says passengers must complete the online C5 Passenger Declaration Form before arrival.
The system covers visitors travelling to Jamaica’s major tourism centres, including Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios, as well as those entering through Kingston. Jamaica has three international airports: Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and Ian Fleming International Airport near Ocho Rios.
The C5 declaration collects immigration and customs information electronically and replaces the printed version that was previously distributed to passengers. Jamaica’s tourism authority currently recommends completing the form before arrival, with the process available online without a charge.
For tourists, this means the arrival process begins before the flight. Travellers heading directly to beach resorts around Montego Bay or continuing towards Negril can complete the required declaration before leaving for the airport.
Barbados keeps digital entry central
Barbados also requires arriving travellers to complete its online Immigration and Customs Form. According to the Barbados Immigration Department, the form is available 72 hours before arrival, after which travellers should retain their immigration and customs receipts on their phones or print them for use at the airport.
The requirement is particularly relevant for visitors arriving at Grantley Adams International Airport, the country’s main international gateway. The airport serves travellers heading towards Bridgetown, the south coast, the west coast and resort areas around the island.
Barbados’ official tourism information also directs arriving visitors towards the online form as part of their travel preparation.
The island continues to market a broad range of experiences, from beaches and water sports to food, heritage, nightlife and nature-based activities.
What Caribbean travellers need to prepare
The digital procedures make pre-flight preparation particularly important for holidaymakers travelling on tight schedules.
Travellers should have their passport details, flight information and accommodation address available when completing the relevant online declaration. Barbados also lists a return ticket and evidence of personal support among its visitor requirements.
For Jamaica, each arriving passenger is required to complete the C5 declaration, including passengers travelling with children. The online form is free, according to Jamaica’s tourism authority.
Keeping confirmation details accessible on a phone can also be useful during the airport journey, particularly when travelling internationally and moving through immigration and customs.
What this means for holidays
From a tourism perspective, the change means that more attention is paid to fulfilling the formalities in advance prior to arrival rather than at arrival. Therefore, a tourist who plans to take a Caribbean vacation will now include the completion of the digital arrival form as part of a list of pre-departure formalities that should be done together with checking the passport validity, booking accommodation, organising airport transfers and considering the visa issue. As for the two Caribbean destinations in question, the tourism entry gates allow tourists to enjoy resorts, culture and various outdoor activities in Jamaica and combine beaches, heritage and water activities in Barbados.
