JK Urbanscapes Appoints Hospitality Titan Jayanta Das to Lead Next Phase of Hotel Growth and Expansion
JK Urbanscapes has announced the appointment of Jayanta Das as President – Hotel Division, with the new role becoming effective from September 1, 2026. The appointment marks a significant leadership move for the company as it strengthens its hospitality operations and focuses on expanding its presence across different markets and hotel segments.
Das brings more than three decades of experience in the hospitality industry, following a distinguished 33-year career with Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL). During his long association with the company, he held several senior leadership roles covering hotel operations, business development, expansion strategies and overall property performance. His most recent position was Area Director & General Manager – Northeast India, Nepal and Bhutan, where he managed operations across multiple markets and supported business growth initiatives.

In his new role at JK Urbanscapes, Das will oversee the company’s Hotel Division and drive key areas including business development, operational excellence, revenue management, talent growth, sustainability practices and stakeholder relationships. His extensive experience in managing hotels, developing teams and improving operational performance is expected to support the company’s plans to build a stronger hospitality portfolio.
Das began his career with IHCL in July 1993 and progressed through various leadership positions before becoming General Manager in 2013. Throughout his career, he has played an important role in the launch and management of both greenfield and brownfield hotel projects, gaining expertise in hotel openings, brand development and operational transformation.

His professional journey has included responsibilities across guest experience enhancement, revenue optimisation, business expansion, employee development and improving service standards. He has also contributed to sustainability-focused hospitality initiatives and community engagement programmes while working closely with tourism partners and industry stakeholders.
The appointment reflects JK Urbanscapes’ continued focus on strengthening its leadership team with experienced hospitality professionals who can support long-term growth. With Das leading the Hotel Division, the company aims to enhance operational capabilities, create stronger market opportunities and deliver improved hospitality experiences across its expanding portfolio.

Throughout his career, Das has played an active role in strengthening hospitality education, skill development and employment opportunities in the region. Working in collaboration with state governments and Tata STRIVE, he contributed to the establishment of hospitality skill development centres in Guwahati and Agartala. These initiatives focused on providing vocational training to young people and helping them build careers in the hospitality sector.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Das has held several important industry positions. He currently serves as Convenor of the Northeast Chapter of the Hotel Association of India and as Chairman of the Hospitality & Tourism Committee of the CII Northeast Council for 2025-26. His industry involvement extends to various hospitality and educational organisations, including the Hotel & Restaurant Association of Assam, Hotel & Restaurant Association of Northeast, IHM Guwahati and Royal Global University. He has also represented the sector at major national and international tourism platforms, including the G20 Conference on Multilateral Business Partnerships in Tourism held in Gangtok in 2023 and the Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 organised by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). He was also associated with the committee responsible for drafting the Assam Tourism Policy 2023.
A graduate of MBB College, Agartala, Das has built a strong academic foundation with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He further developed his hospitality expertise by completing a three-year Diploma in Hotel Management from IIBM, Patna, which helped shape his professional journey in the hospitality sector.
Over the years, Das has continued to strengthen his leadership and management capabilities through several prestigious development programmes. His professional learning includes the Taj Leadership Program, designed to enhance leadership skills and operational excellence within the hospitality industry.
He has also completed the General Manager Development Program conducted by IIM Ahmedabad and Nanyang Business School, Singapore, gaining advanced knowledge in strategic management, business operations and leadership practices. In addition, he participated in the Tata Group Executive Leadership Program at Michigan Ross and the Tata Management Training Centre, further strengthening his expertise in managing large-scale hospitality operations.
Das is also a certified HACCP Lead Auditor from BVQI, demonstrating his specialised knowledge of food safety systems, quality management and compliance standards. His combination of academic qualifications, leadership training and industry certifications highlights his commitment to excellence and continuous professional development in the hospitality sector.
