ITC Hotels Limited has announced the signing of a management agreement for a new 101-key property under the Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels brand in the Karai area of Gandhinagar. The upcoming development marks a strategic expansion of the group’s presence in Gujarat, one of India’s rapidly advancing industrial and economic regions, while further strengthening the Welcomhotel footprint across key state capitals and emerging business hubs.
Spread across a 9-acre site, the hotel will offer a mix of well-designed guest rooms and suites along with multiple dining venues, including an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant, and a dedicated coffee lounge, catering to a wide range of culinary preferences.
The property is also planned as a major events destination, featuring over 10,000 square feet of indoor banquet and meeting facilities. In addition, it will include approximately 46,000 square feet of landscaped outdoor lawns, making it well-suited for large-scale weddings, social gatherings, and corporate events.
Anil Chadha, Managing Director, ITC Hotels Limited, said, “Gujarat continues to witness sustained growth in tourism, driven by strong infrastructure development, improved connectivity, and growing interest in cultural, spiritual, and leisure travel. Welcomhotel Karai Gandhinagar, with its strategic connectivity and evolving destination appeal, will play a key role in enhancing our network across business, leisure, and the MICE segments, delivering premium hospitality experiences rooted in local ethos.”

Kamleshkumar Babulal Chauhan, Partner, M/s Shyam Group Hotel and Resort said, “We are pleased to associate with ITC Hotels Limited to introduce the Welcomhotel brand in Gandhinagar city. This collaboration reflects our shared vision of creating a high-quality destination that caters to both leisure travellers and large-format social events. With ITC Hotels’ strong brand equity and expertise in hospitality, we are confident this new hotel will set benchmarks in the region, and will contribute to the next decade of development in Gujarat.”
Situated in the Karai region, strategically positioned between the Gandhinagar commercial zone and the urban centre of Ahmedabad, the upcoming hospitality development benefits from one of the most advantageous locations in this rapidly evolving part of Gujarat. The area is increasingly recognised for its strong connectivity and balanced urban growth, offering direct access to Ahmedabad Airport, GIFT City, and several key commercial, sporting, and institutional hubs. This connectivity positions Karai as a convenient midpoint for both business and leisure travellers moving across the region. As infrastructure continues to expand and mobility improves, the location is steadily gaining attention from developers, investors, and hospitality brands seeking long-term value in high-growth corridors.
Karai is gradually transforming into an emerging micro-market within the broader Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar economic belt. Historically less developed compared to its neighbouring urban centres, the region is now witnessing a structured wave of infrastructure development, improved road networks, and increasing commercial activity. Its proximity to GIFT City, one of India’s most significant financial and technology hubs, further strengthens its appeal as a strategic hospitality and business destination. The area is also supported by its access to major transport arteries that connect industrial zones, educational institutions, and recreational infrastructure. This combination of accessibility and development momentum is positioning Karai as a preferred alternative for new-age hospitality projects that seek space, connectivity, and future scalability without the constraints of dense city environments.
The upcoming Welcomhotel property, planned for launch within the current year, has been conceptualised to meet the growing demand for refined and experience-driven accommodation in the region. The development is expected to integrate contemporary design principles with operational efficiency while maintaining a strong emphasis on comfort and guest-centric services. A key aspect of the project is its effort to reflect elements of local culture and environmental context, ensuring that the property resonates with its surroundings rather than functioning as a standalone urban structure. The hotel is designed to serve both business travellers visiting GIFT City and Ahmedabad as well as leisure guests exploring the broader Gujarat region. With modern amenities, thoughtfully designed interiors, and a focus on service quality, the property aims to establish itself as a benchmark for mid-to-upscale hospitality in this emerging corridor.

From a broader perspective, this development aligns with the long-term expansion strategy of ITC Hotels, which continues to focus on entering markets with strong demand potential and sustained growth trajectories. The company has been actively identifying locations that are not only commercially viable today but also positioned for significant future expansion. Karai fits this profile due to its evolving infrastructure, increasing corporate presence, and proximity to high-growth economic zones. By establishing a presence in such emerging destinations, ITC Hotels strengthens its footprint across strategically important regions while diversifying its portfolio beyond traditional metropolitan hubs. This approach also reflects a wider industry trend where hospitality brands are increasingly investing in peripheral urban zones that offer scalability, lower congestion, and long-term development potential.
The introduction of Welcomhotel in Karai is therefore more than a standalone project; it represents a calculated move within a broader regional growth narrative. As Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar continue to expand their economic and infrastructural influence, surrounding micro-markets like Karai are expected to play a crucial supporting role. The combination of strategic location, infrastructure development, and institutional growth is likely to drive sustained demand for quality hospitality services in the area. In this context, the new hotel is positioned to benefit from both immediate demand and long-term regional transformation, reinforcing its relevance in Gujarat’s evolving urban landscape.
